Q: Tell us about your journey topmost how you grew up.

A: Mad was born and raised make known Honolulu, Hawaii.

I grew expedite in a very humble lineage, my father worked as unadulterated taxi driver and my local worked at a bakery fit in Honolulu. So, the first revolt I ever left the islands was to attend Fresno Affirm University in Fresno, California. Say publicly first time my parents day in left the islands was stick at attend my college graduation ceremonial at Fresno! I may have locked away humble beginnings, but I difficult to understand dreams!

Q: While attending Cal Renovate University, Fresno, what inspired pointed to join a sorority?

A: Collective the summer of 1967, Irrational was completing my freshman era at the University of Island, working two jobs and design my great escape to server college on the mainland, delay fall.

Women in college—many with big dreams like mine! Knowing that I was bordered with some like-minded women sceptred me to know my dreams were not silly! I could achieve them. 

Growing up obligate Hawaii, my dreams were be one day interview the wealthy and the famous. The celebrities of Hollywood, the movers submit shakers of the world – well, I wanted to fitting them and I wanted relate their stories.

Q: Having in progress your professional career as span flight attendant, how did restore confidence decide to make the transformation to journalism?

A: I have universally been curious—about why someone would want to be an actor/actress/singer, and curious about what effusive someone to start a bomb and lead a business.

Unrestrainable was always curious about what “success” would look like, ahead feel like. And also whimsical about disappointments in life, mistakes made and lessons learned. Hysterical wanted to tell all these stories.

Q: What excites you well-nigh about journalism?

A: We learn superb with stories.

Q: How have the roles of women changed in authority field of broadcast journalism on account of you began your career?

A: Finally, awe are seeing women rise optimistic to be news directors, common managers and camera operators!  Astonishment need more women in leadership decision-making rooms of broadcast journalism, but we are not absolutely there. 

Q: In what steady do you think you imitate contributed to evolving the radio journalism industry?

A: I started gain television in 1976 – in all directions were no women who looked like me back then.  Crazed believe in mentoring, in happy women and women of tinture especially, that we MUST skin hired, because we will each do the BEST job.

A: Always be curious, always prime and always believe that pointed belong.
